When a June earthquake left 80% of Mama Nawa Elementary School’s classrooms unsuitable for use, it presented the school’s administration with a complex challenge. Repairs to the damage could take months and they needed to find a way for learning to continue in the most seamless way possible.
Driven by the core insurance principle of protecting people when the unexpected happens, MAAGAP Insurance proactively sought to help and was able to identify Mama Nawa Elementary School as a community in urgent need of support. Immediately stepping in, the company provided five heavy-duty, portable tents on the school’s open grounds.
The installation was facilitated by MAAGAP General Santos City Branch Manager JV Dejiga, with MAAGAP President and CEO Martin dela Rosa attending the turnover.
The tents now provide viable, temporary learning spaces, allowing students and teachers to carry on with their classes while permanent rebuilding efforts are underway.
“When disruptions happen, teachers and students shouldn’t have to worry about falling behind in their lessons. These tents give the students the stability they need at the moment. We are happy to help keep their school year moving forward while their classrooms are being rebuilt,” said Dela Rosa.
